Our Research & Policy Coordinator attended and spoke at a screening of the film 'White Helmets' at Manchester Museum on 7 November. The film screening was a part of Manchester University's ESRC's Festival of Social Science and hosted film directed Orlando Von Einsiedel.
For the second week in a row, a group of Manchester's Syrian women cooked traditional dishes and distributed to the city's homeless on 4 November in partnership with Coffee4Craig charity. On 5 November, one of these women, Dr. Alia Alshawaf, reflected on their joint experience on BBC Radio Manchester.
We hosted a movie screening on 29 October in which we showed The Young Fathers (2006), الآباء الصغار. The Syrian film talks about three children who help their father to continue his bachelor’s degree in law after their mother passes away. They meet an Egyptian archaeologist who helps them.
A group of Syrian women volunteered to cook and serve food for Manchester's homeless in partnership on 28 October in partnership with Coffee4Craig, a local charity dedicating to helping the area's homeless.
Manchester local of Syrian descent, Zeina El Debs, discovered by chance that her forefather Mohammad Yaseen Hallaby was the first Muslim known to be buried in Manchester in 1902 and relays the story of how she found her forefather's grave in the following press release.
