As a part of Journeys Festival Manchester this year, Dr Mustafa Alachkar from Rethink Rebuild Society participated in a panel discussion about "Recreating and Retaining Culture and Heritage" on Wednesday 11th of October at Longsight Library and Learning Centre.
We hosted a seminar on hate crime awareness in our multi-facility room on 7 October. This seminar had input from three different speakers: David Willetts from Greater Manchester Police, Fakhrul from Tell Mama, and Shazia Awan from Manchester City Council.
As part of Journeys Festival International, Manchester Museum hosted our exhibition 'Silenced Voices: Syrian Women in Assad's Prisons' on 7 October. We held this exhibition in collaboration with Amnesty International's Manchester group and used it as a platform to educate people about the plight facing Syrian women in Assad regime prisons.
We held our monthly seminar on Sunday 01 Oct 2017 in which we discussed the open question: Are we still Syrians?
The open-platform discussion took place in our multi-facility room. No speakers were present and the floor was open to everyone to express their opinions.
Questions asked included:
- What do I mean when I say I am Syrian?
Dr Haytham Alhamwi from Rethink Rebuild Society delivered a talk in the "International City" strand of the Home Project about the Syrian community in Manchester on Thursday 28th September at Flour & Flagon.
