Rethink Rebuild Society issued a statement on 10 May 2019 condemning the military campaign of the Assad regime and its Russian ally on Idlib province and warning of another wave of displacement of Syrians in Idlib.
On Friday 3 May 2019, we hosted two community legal education presentations on the Designated Area Offence and the changes that will be made to the teaching of Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) in English schools. The presentations were delivered by solicitor Nasir Hafezi.
We had a fruitful film screening, poetry performance and panel discussion at HOME Manchester on Monday 29 April 2019. The film screening MemoriesfromSyria showed excerpts of the stories of Syrians in the UK who shared, in their own words, some of the experiences that they underwent either throughout the conflict in Syria, through their journeys to reach safety in Europe and through rebuilding their lives in the UK.
On Sunday 28 April 2019, we hosted the screening of Nae Pasaran (2018), which reveals the tremendous impact made by Scottish factory workers 40 years ago against Pinochet’s Air Force in Chile. The workers refused to repair the warplanes engine in an act of solidarity against the violent military coup in Chile.
Rethink Rebuild Society attended The APPG on British Muslims roadshow launch of the inquiry into a working definition of Islamophobia on Sunday, 14 April 2019. The event was hosted by Afzal Khan MP, the vice-chair of the APPG. In his talk, Afzal Khan urged local authorities to adopt the APPG definition as part of their effort to counter Islamophobia in all its forms.
Rethink Rebuild Society hosted a talk by Dr Redwan El-Khayat on the moral development of young generation on Saturday 6 April 2019. In his talk, he focused on the importance of raising principled young generation with values. He gave examples from his project on the same topic which he has been implementing in Turkey and Syria.
Rethink Rebuild Society announced the launch of a series of 50 videos titled ‘Memories from Syria’ which chronicle excerpts from the lives of Syrian refugees currently residing in the UK. These videos were launched at an event in HOME on Saturday 30th of March.
Rethink Rebuild Society along with 43 other Syrian NGOs and groups of victims released a joint letter on 27 March 2019 confirming the role of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate war crimes and torture crimes.

The exhibition “Silenced voices: Syrian women in Assad’s prisons” organised by Rethink Rebuild Society was hosted by Lancaster Priory Church on Saturday, 23rd of March. The exhibition also included a short talk by a former detainee, Aminah Khoulani, and a film screening “Silent War” by Manon Louizeau.
