RR attended the event on the Community Sponsorship Programme organised by Mercy Mission, in collaboration with the Muslim Council of Britain, on Sunday 24 February 2019 in Manchester. Members and leaders of several Islamic organisations and mosques attended the event and they had chance to network with other Islamic organisations.
We attended a seminar at the British Muslim Heritage Centre on 24 February that outlined coming changes to the Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) courses that will be implemented in primary and secondary schools.
We participated in celebrating International Mother Language Day on Thursday 21 February 2019 at Longsight Library & Learning Centre in Manchester. Visitors had the opportunity to get involved in exciting events including Arabic calligraphy, hands-on and crafts activities and family-friendly-games.
Mancunian Matters has interviewed RR's manager, Dr Haytham Alhamwi, about his experience in Syria and the establishment of Rethink Rebuild Society. Dr Alhamwi talked about the RR's aims and the aspects of work it has been working on for more than 6 years.
Our women’s group of over 50 went on a day trip to Orsdall Hall Salford on the 21st of February 2019.
The group enjoyed a great day out and learned about the history of this former manor house in the historic parish of Ordsall, which dates back more than 750 years.
We had a very productive meeting today with Afzal Khan MP on Syria on Friday 15th February 2019. We look forward to continuing to work with him on supporting refugees and IDPs in the region, addressing concerns regarding refugee return, and establishing accountability. Rethink Rebuild Society launched “The Syrian Apple” art exhibition by Amany Al-Ali from Idlib, Syria on Wednesday, 13th of February. The artist participated in the launch event through video call so visitors had the chance to ask their questions to Al-Ali.
On Friday 8th February 2019, we hosted a lecture on family issues by Personal Coach Khawla Alrantesi. The lecture focused on some challenges facing women in their family life whether with their husbands or with their children. During the lecture, women had the chance to talk about their own experiences and raise their questions to receive advice from Khawla Alrantesi.
RR attended a film evening hosted by the Manchester City of Sanctuary on Thursday 7th February 2019. The documentary "8 Borders, 8 Days" was directed by Amanda Bailly. Amanda chronicles the journey of a Syrian mother, Sham, and her kids who had to take risks in order to ensure a safe future.
Rethink Rebuild Society participated in Salford Schools of Sanctuary Award Ceremony on Wednesday 6th February 2019 at Buile Hill Baqueting Suite. Our manager Dr. Haytham Alhamwi shared his personal account of what is happening in Syria and introduced the audience to our work as RR.
