We had a very productive meeting today with Afzal Khan MP on Syria on Friday 15th February 2019. We look forward to continuing to work with him on supporting refugees and IDPs in the region, addressing concerns regarding refugee return, and establishing accountability. Rethink Rebuild Society launched “The Syrian Apple” art exhibition by Amany Al-Ali from Idlib, Syria on Wednesday, 13th of February. The artist participated in the launch event through video call so visitors had the chance to ask their questions to Al-Ali.
On Friday 8th February 2019, we hosted a lecture on family issues by Personal Coach Khawla Alrantesi. The lecture focused on some challenges facing women in their family life whether with their husbands or with their children. During the lecture, women had the chance to talk about their own experiences and raise their questions to receive advice from Khawla Alrantesi.
RR attended a film evening hosted by the Manchester City of Sanctuary on Thursday 7th February 2019. The documentary "8 Borders, 8 Days" was directed by Amanda Bailly. Amanda chronicles the journey of a Syrian mother, Sham, and her kids who had to take risks in order to ensure a safe future.
Rethink Rebuild Society participated in Salford Schools of Sanctuary Award Ceremony on Wednesday 6th February 2019 at Buile Hill Baqueting Suite. Our manager Dr. Haytham Alhamwi shared his personal account of what is happening in Syria and introduced the audience to our work as RR.
We joined over 30 Syrian organisations and partners in signing a letter on 30 January addressed to to the High Representative of the EU, Ms. Federica Mogherini concerning the agenda and planning of Brussels III conference on Syria.
On Sunday 27 January 2019, we hosted the screening of True Stories of Love, Life, Death and Sometimes Revolution (2012), documentary about the suffering of Syrian women, followed by Q&A with co-director Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen via Skype from Denmark.
We had a great catch up with Jeff Smith MP this morning to discuss issues pertaining to the recent developments in Syria. We discussed the central imperative to achieve civilian protection in Syria as well as coordinating the refugee response in the UK. We look forward to continued work with Jeff.
Rethink Rebuild Society issued a statement on 25th of January 2019 RR welcomes passing of the Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act, which allows the White House to impose sanctions of foreign entities and persons who cooperate with the Assad's regime.
We are glad to publish the results of a new research project into the health and well-being of refugees resettled in Lancashire, commissioned by Lancashire County Council through Rethink Rebuild Society and Lancashire Care Foundation Trust.
