On Saturday 15th June 2019, we took part in a unique tour of the city centre organised by Invisible Manchester, a social enterprise that offers friendly walking tours by tour guides who have experienced homelessness.
Our tour guide, Danny, was homeless for over four years living rough on the streets of Manchester. With help from Invisible Manchester, he now has a home, works as a tour guide, and writes poetry. His poetry collection will be published soon.
Danny showed us around some of the places he knew very closely while living on the streets, told us how they looked and felt from the point of view of a homeless person, and read us some poems which he wrote in these places or about them.
The tour was quite inspirational and showed us the hidden human side of homeless people.
