RR attended on Monday 6th July a memorial service in the Manchester Cathedral for the Srebrenica genocide of 1995. The service was a collaborative effort between Remembering Srebrenica charity, faith-based organisations, and Greater Manchester Police.
MP of Gorton Sir Gerald Kaufman ('Father of the House') visited RR office on Friday 26 June. We discussed with him issues pertaining to the UK's policy on Syria and presented him with some of our core policy demands as the Syrian community. The discussion was highly informative and we learned the following from MP Kaufman:
Many members of the Manchester Syrian community attended Syria Relief's annual dinner on Saturday 23 May, this year titled '4 Years On'.
The event was highly successful in highlighting Syria Relief's accomplishments in the past year and in presenting its vision for the next year.
Five members of the Syrian community of Bristol visited RR office on Saturday 23 May and met members of the Syrian community of Manchester
The meeting between the two communities was highly beneficial in sharing experiences and exploring methods of collaboration to increase Syria's profile within the UK.
The Syrian community of Manchester had the good pleasure of meeting with Barbara, Lucy, and Adam Henning (family of the late Alan Henning) for breakfast at the RR office on 16 May. We are very thankful to the Henning family for accepting our invitation and hope that it was just the start of a continued and warm relationship between the family and our community.
