Lucy Powell MP for Central Manchester has called on David Cameron to fulfil the UK's "‘moral obligation’ to act" after she 'met with members of the city’s Syrian community'. It was a pleasure to meet with Lucy in the Annual Syrian Fun Day in Manchester and we look forward to working with her on Syria-related issues.
Our member Yasser Aljassem attended the Militant Labour Forum titled 'Open UK borders to the "Calais immigrants" on 22 August. He provided his insight not only as a Syrian asylum seeker but also as someone who was previously in Calais himself. Yasser's presentation was praised by audience members as highly informative.
RR met with MEP's Afzal Khan and Gianni Pitella in our office on 13 August. After giving a brief presentation to them on the Syrian conflict, Afzal and Gianni asked us some of their questions on the conflict and were shocked to hear some of the facts and statistics.
MP Jeff Smith visited our office on 12 August 2015 to meet with the Syrian community and to hear about any issues that we are facing. After we went through a presentation for him, Jeff asked us a number of questions about Syria and promised to help us get our message across to other Labour Parliamentarians.
RR attended MPAC-UK's Anti-Islamophobia Network Strategy Away Day in Newport Pagnell on 1st of August. This event brought together organisations from across the UK to discuss rising levels of Islamophobia and how we can collectively work to address this increasing problem.
