We screened a film viewing of Silvered Water: Syria Self Portrait on Friday 14th July, directed by Ossama Mohammed. This film documents the destruction and atrocities of Syria’s war through a combination of eye-witness accounts, shot by a reported 1,001 Syrians on mobile phones and posted to the internet, and footage shot by Bedirxan during the siege of Homs.
The Celebrating Syria festival kicked off on Monday 10th July with the wonderful Duo Zaman concert at the Emmanuel Church performed by Rihab Azar and Jamal Alsakka. . In Arabic, ‘Zamaan’ means time but the word can also be used to refer to the past.
We had a wonderful time at the Eid party for the Syrian community on Monday 26th June at Oasis Academy MediaCityUK.
There were many activities for the children including bouncy castle and Eid gifts. It was great to see so many families coming together, socialising and enjoying Eid sweets. Eid Mubarak to all!
Rethink Rebuild Society organised a successful fundraising Iftar on Friday 16th of June to support Iqraa school in the western suburbs of Aleppo Province, Syria. This school is funded by Manchester Community and implemented in collaboration with Syria Relief (UK registered Charity).
We held an indoor family fun day over the Easter break on Saturday 15th April. Many Syrian and non-Syrian families came together to enjoy the food, the activities and to have a pleasant day. We were also pleased to have Parliamentary Labour candidate, Afzal Khan, join us to meet Syrian families and show his support.
