Hanan Albirmawi presented her first ever 'Voices from Syria' presentation at Manchester Metropolitan University's Faculty Fest on 17 March. This 'Voices from Syria' presentation was a result of a month's work between Hanan and one of our volunteers, Reem Aouir, who has been working with us to train five Syrian speakers as part of her coursework at MMU.
We spoke on a panel at an event on 15 March for Liverpool's Syria Awareness Week' on the topic of Syrian women. We highlighted local stories of Syrian activist women from within the Manchester community, highlighting that despite all odds and struggles, Syrian women are fighting to get their messages heard.
Amnesty International Society along with the Liverpool University Arab Society, University and College Union and Help the Homeless Society organised on Monday 13 March a seminar about the conflict in Syria as part of the Syria Week event held in Liverpool university.
We were invited to speak at an event on 14 March at the University of Sussex, hosted by the Sussex Friends of Syria, titled 'Media narratives on Syria: Common misconceptions and their implications'. We spoke on a panel alongside Martin Chulov, Middle East Correspondent for The Guardian.
For International Women's Day we held on Sunday 12 March a film screening of Syria's Rebellious Women, a documentary by award winning journalist, Zaina Erhaim.
