On Tuesday the 10th of April Dr Haytham Alhamwi was invited by AKS Lytham Independent School to expalin to their Sixth Form students what is happening in Syria. The presentation astounded the students who listened to some hard-hitting stories and first hand experiences of the war in Syria.
On Tuesday the 3rd of April, we were pleased to welcome Baroness Williams of Trafford, Minister of State for Countering Extremism, in our office. It was an opportunity to exchange views on the drivers of extremism and to contextualise these drivers with the latest developments in Syria.

On the 19th of March, Rethink Rebuild Society Managing Director Dr. Haytham Alhamwi participated in a joint meeting between Muslims and Catholics from across Greater Manchester held in the Cathedral Centre, Salford.
Orient News TV did an interview in Arabic on the 18th of March with our Community Support volunteer Ahmad Nayef on the updates of the Refugee Family Reunion Bill. Ahmad explained that the bill will now pass on to committee stage which is likely to take about 6 months. Then he gave some information about the new changes to the law proposed by this bill.
Rethink Rebuild Society welcomed a visit by a delegation from the Commission for Countering Extremism headed by its Lead Commissioner Sara Khan on the 19th of March. We had a fruitful meeting in which we explained our work with the Syrian community and our efforts for the integration of Syrians settling in the UK and for the protection of civilians in Syria.
Rethink Rebuild Society participated in the "Power Up: Pushing back against the ‘Hostile Environment" event in Manchester on the 19th of March. The event held lectures and workshops on resisting detention, deportation and immigration enforcement, securing employment support, and resisting the hostile environment in healthcare.
Rethink Rebuild Society held an event on the 18th of March 2018 in which the movie "The Other Side of Hope" was screened. The movie is a Finnish comedy drama in which Khaled (Sherwan Haji), a Syrian refugee from Aleppo, befriends a travelling salesman, Wikström, trying to start a restaurant.
Rethink Rebuild Society partnered with Stockport for Peace and Stockport Amnesty Group to organise the "Silenced Voices" exhibition on detainees in Syria, which was held at the Stockport Quaker Meeting House on Friday the 16th of March.
