On Thursday 9 April 2020 at 6pm we hosted the 2nd episode of virtual talks on our Facebook page. The talk was about “Family Life during Covid-19 Crisis” and it was delivered by Dr Mamoun Mobayed, a Consultant Psychiatrist based in Qatar. Dr Mamoun talked about how families could handle the crisis socially and financially.
On Thursday 02 April 2020 at 7pm, we hosted the first series of virtual live talks on our Facebook page. The first talk was about “COVID-19 Pandemic” and it was delivered by Dr Ammar Darwish, a Staff Surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). In his talk, Dr Ammar gave an introduction on COVID-19 and its causes and consequence.
On Friday 06/03/2020, Dr Moaz El Sayed, our Research and Advocacy Officer participated in the post-screening discussion of the moving documentary “We Are Not Princesses”. The film follows a grouping of Syrian women living as refugees in Beirut, who come together to tell their stories of loss, love, hope and pain through the ancient Greek myth Antigone.
Rethink Rebuild Society is pleased to learn that Manchester-based Syrian refugee Mrs Amina Khoulani won the 2020 International Women of Courage Award by the U.S. Department of State along with 11 extraordinary women from all over the world. The award ceremony was hosted by the US Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo at the Department of State on Wednesday 04 March 2020.
On Sunday 1st March Rethink Rebuild Society presented "Blinded by the Light", the 2019 musical comedy directed by Gurinder Chadha. The film is adapted from the memoir by journalist Sarfraz Manzoor and follows 16 year old Javed, growing up in 1987 in Luton.
On Saturday 22 February 2020, visitors of Manchester Open Exhibition met with Mustafa Alachkar from Rethink Rebuild Society who guided them on a remarkable tour through a selection from +500 artwork from Greater Manchester residents.
On Friday 21 February 2020, Rethink Rebuild Society celebrated International Mother Language Day at Longsight Library Manchester. Our own Mustafa & Hala read some Arabic poems of the late Syrian poet Muhammad al-Maghut with their translation in English. We would like to thank those who attended the event.
On Sunday 09 February 2020, Rethink Rebuild Society, in partnership with members of the Egyptian, Sudanese, Palestinian and Somali communities organised an event about the impact of Brexit on Arab communities residing in the UK.
We are so thrilled to announce that Rethink Rebuild Society (RR) is the winner of Emerging Impact Award as voted on social media, for their work with supporting and improving the lives of refugees in the UK. The ceremony took place at the University of Manchester on Thursday 6 February 2020.
On 29 January 2020, Rethink Rebuild hosted film screening event for ''The Echo of Pain of the Many'' as well as the launch of the photo exhibition '' An Enduring Struggle for Justice''.
