Our Development coordinator Mr. Amaf Yousef participated in training on Supporting Refugee Advocacy on 9th June, organised by the Lloyds Bank Foundation and Unbound Philanthropy. The training included techniques and factors to be considered by civil society organisations that are advocating for certain changes within the refugee support systems.
Our Development Coordinator participated in a panel on Risks and Challenges in Migration contexts: What will the new governance model need to address? And How? What will it look like? This was as part of the 6th Annual Seminar on Advancing Good Governance in International Development, held at Rhodes House, Oxford University on the 8th of June.
Spring Reign, a theatre production on the Syrian conflict directed and produced by our good friend Ben Power, completed another UK tour in May and June 2017. This play was very positively received by a diverse audience and gave a powerful narration of Syrians' experiences through art.
On 3 June, Syrians in Manchester Gorton, Manchester Withington, and Stretford and Urmston participated in a ‘Day of Action’ to get involved with their local election candidates. They visited their local candidates in their offices, asked them to sign up to the pledges in the Syria Manifesto, and volunteered with their candidates’ campaigns.
Dr. Ahmad Khaled, a British-Syrian doctor, gave an interview on BBC Radio 5 Live on his experience in responding to the horrific Manchester attack this week. Dr. Khaled noted that it was his duty as a human, as a British Syrian, and as a medical doctor to do what he could to alleviate pain and suffering.
