Stop the War held an event on 9 December on Syria at Manchester University. We attended alongside members of the Syrian community and we relayed our concerns regarding the developments in the country. Particularly, we were concerned that out of a group of four panellists on Syria, only one of them mentioned the Assad regime.
On 8 December, a briefing written by Rethink Rebuild Society was used in Parliament to help advise MP’s on the use of torture in Syria, at the hands of both the Assad regime and other military groups. The briefing highlights the extensive range of gruesome, barbaric methods of torture inflicted on innocent Syrian civilians.
We participated in an event organised by Syria Solidarity Movement called 'Together for Syria'. This event brought together Syrians activists, supporters, and others to discuss various aspects of the Syrian conflict.
An article in the Economist on 5 December focused on Stop the War Coalition and its refusal to allow Syrians to speak in their events on Syria. One such instance is when it denied us, as Rethink Rebuild Society, the opportunity from speaking in an event on Syria in Manchester.
On 4 December, the day after the UK Government voted to use military airstrikes in Syria against ISIL, Rethink Rebuild contributed to an article in Mancunian Matters to express its doubts over the viability of this military intervention.
