A Quest for Solidarity in a Fractured Europe

The Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute at the University of Manchester organised a roundtable event that included lectures and commentaries from 5 speakers and an engaged discussion with the audience.
Dr Haytham Alhamwi, the Managing Director of Rethink: Rebuild, was among the speakers and informed the audience that "We have to understand what it is like to live under a dictatorship regime in order to understand refugees and what they are fleeing".
Yasser Al-Jessem, a Syrian refugee and volunteer at RR, delivered an open narrative of his story and the story of refugees.
Among other speakers were Professor Kevin Clements, Director of New Zealand National Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Otago and Professor Sara De Vido, Assistant Professor of International Law at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Italy.
The event took place in C2 Renold Building on 15th of December 2015.
