UK-based Syrian organisations, including RR, have expressed their concern about the emergence of a new group, ‘The European Centre for the Study of Extremism, Cambridge’, which appears to exist primarily to spread propaganda for the Assad dictatorship.
On Mothers Day 26 March, Syrian women and supporters held a silent stand in Manchester Piccadilly to remember Syrian mothers who have their children, spouses, or immediate family members detained in Assad regime prisons.
RR joined other UK-based Syrian organisations to send a letter to Prime Minister Theresa May on 24 March questioning the recent Coalition attacks on a school and mosque in Syria.
RR Advocacy Director, Dr Haytham Alhamwi, has been interviewed, along other civil society leaders, by Aljazeera English during his visit to Geneva. The purpose of his visit to Geneva was to focus on the importance of the issue of detainees in the Geneva negotiations between Assad regime and the opposition.
We had a successful 'Living Library' event at Longsight Library on Wednesday 22nd March, as part of the SICK! Festival.
Following two public action alerts, the BBC finally responded to our report which documents bias in the BBC's coverage of the Syrian conflict.
We presented Voices From Syria at Newcastle University on March 20th 2017, with Dr Haytham Alhamwi who spoke about the reality of what is happening in Syria as well as his personal experiences. We had a great turnout and were humbled to see the level of support. Thank you to the Law School and to the Human Rights and Social Justice Forum for hosting us.
We spoke at a fringe event in the Young Labour Political School which took place in Birmingham on 18 March. We spoke to a packed room of young Labour leaders who were interested in hearing about the situation in Syria and learning what their party could do about it.
