Press Release: Manchester Syrians planning ‘Day of Action’ for elections

Manchester Syrians will be participating in a ‘Day of Action’ on Saturday 3 June to get involved with their local election candidates. They will be visiting their local candidates in their offices, asking them to sign up to the pledges in the Syria Manifesto, and volunteering with their candidates’ campaigns.

Press Release: Manchester Syrians Shocked, Appalled by Horrific Attack. Syrian Doctors were among First-Line Responders

We issued a press release on 24 May alongside the British Syrian Medical Society outlining the Syrian response to the horrific attack in Manchester this week. We furthermore highlighted that Syrian doctors were among the first-line responders to the attack.

4x4 Manchester: The Welcoming City

Our Research & Policy Coordinator Dr. Yasmine Nahlawi presented at an event hosted by 4x4 Manchester on 'The Welcoming City' on 24 May. In our presentation, we highlighted that when migrant communities are welcomed into their new home cities, especially during their time of need, they will want to give back to their communities when they are presented the chance.

"Tango for Syrian Children" Concert

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Tango for Syrian Children concert, on Wed 17th May, a success. We were able to raise £800 for our educational project to support a school in Syria. The concert was well attended, with musicians from the Halle Orchestra in Manchester playing. Everyone also enjoyed the delicious Syrian food available.

Resilience factors among Syrian refugees in the UK and the role of religion or faith in resilience

In our monthly seminar on Sunday the 14th of May, Dr Alachkar presented the results of his Masters' research in psychological trauma which was on "Resilience factors among Syrian refugees in the UK and the role of religion or faith in resilience".
The seminar evoked a lovely discussion after that where many emotional stories were narrated by the audience.
