The family of Yahya Sharbaji, a leading non-violent activist from Darayya who has been detained by the Syrian regime since 2011, has learned on Monday July 23rd 2018 that both he and his brother Mohammad had died in 2013 while in detention.
As part of a joint project with Lancashire County Council, Rethink Rebuild Society organised a meeting with Syrian refugees sponsored by Lancashire County Council on Sunday 15th of July 2018. The project aimed to assess the Health and Wellbeing of the families under the Refugee Resettlement Programme.
On Saturday 14 July 2018, Rethink Rebuild Society invited people to join it in walking along the "Manchester Peace Trail" - a guided walk that took us through the historical sites of Manchester that tells its story of democratic change and its identity as a "city of peace".
On 13 of July 2018 Rethink Rebuild Society hosted a session on improving mental health delivered by SelfHelp, a mental health charity based in the North of England.
On Friday 13 July, our managing director, Dr Haytham Alhamwi, delivered a talk to students at Harrytown Catholic High School, Romiley as part of the school "One Community Day" that is based this year around the theme of sharing the journey, inspired by Pope Francis.
On Sunday 8th of July, Fans of Sufi art enjoyed a night of singing and devotion with Syrian singer Bachar Zarkan who sang verses from the divine poetry of famous Arab poets like Ibn Arabi, Ibn Al-Faridh, and Al-Hallaj and extended their rich legacy to the work of contemporary poet and literary icon Mahmoud Darwish.
Having been shortlisted for the Fusion Community Group of the Year Award 2018, members of Rethink Rebuild attended the Awards Ceremony held the Concert Hall at King George’s Hall Blackburn on Saturday July 7th.

Rethink Rebuild Society prepared a Briefing Report on the latest Syrian regime offensive on the de-escalation zone in the country's south, illustrating its impact and ramifications, and outlaying a perspective for how the situation should be resolved.
On Friday the 29th of June we hosted a first aid session aimed specifically at Syrian ladies of the older age group (over 50) who live in Manchester. The training focused on basic everyday first aid and all those who attended left better prepared for any first aid situations!
