Rethink Rebuild Society joined other Syrian organisations in issuing a brief paper to highlight the grave risks that refugees and returnees have already faced, or will likely be facing, as a result of their return. It also pins down key concerns in the process itself that is being proposed to "facilitate" refugee return.
Dr Haytham Alhamwi was among the panellists on the seminar ‘Plight of Detainees in Assad's Jails’ held on Tuesday 18th of September 2018 at SOAS University of London. The event was organised by Syria Solidarity Campaign and SOAS Syria Society.
We issued a press release regarding our upcoming 'Celebrating Syria' festival which will run between 6-14 October in Manchester. This Festival is the second annual such festival to run in Manchester. Last year’s festival was the first of its kind in Europe.
Rethink Rebuild Society organised a visit to the Victoria Baths in Manchester on Sunday 9th of September for the 50+ Women's Group. The participants enjoyed a nice day out and learned about the beautiful building and its history. The 50+ group focuses on women of that age group and organises specially selected events that suit their interests and needs.
On Sunday 09 September 2018, we hosted an event entitled ‘Alive in Graves, Alive in our hearts’.
Organised in collaboration with Save The Rest, the event aimed at remembering the plight of detainees inside Assad’s prisons and what measures can be taken to stop the ongoing atrocities.
Rethink Rebuild Society met with representatives from the UK's Foreign & Commonwealth Office on August 8th to discuss recent developments in Syria. The discussion addressed the need for the UK to explore further avenues for pursuing accountability, the importance preserving the independent space created by civil society, and the inclusivity of the political process.
Rethink Rebuild Society hosted on Sunday 5 August 2018 an open discussion about the possibility of bringing the Syrian spirit and the Syrian society back to life. Facilitated by Dr Basil Hatahet, the event discussed issues preventing such a rejuvenation and how Syrians can overcome them.
The London-based newspaper Al-Araby Al-Jadeed (The New Arab) posted an article about Rethink Rebuild Society's work written by Dr. Alessandro Colombu who teaches Arabic at the University of Manchester.
