Advocacy

In furtherance of its charitable objectives, RR strives to raise awareness on issues related to refugees and immigrants within the British landscape through work on policy and media. Because of our daily work with Syrian refugees, we serve as a critical source of information on the Syrian conflict for journalists and through our professional relationships with these journalists we work on the framework by which refugee crises, particularly in Syria, are discussed. RR also organises seminars and hosts academic conferences that draw in leading academics and community organisers for discussion and insight on often overlooked aspects of the Syrian conflict and other conflicts in the region.

Press Release: Truce at Stake in Daraya

We issued a press release on 14 May to highlight the dire situation in Daraya, whereby the Assad regime continues to violate the ceasefire despite the complete adherence of the city to this ceasefire. Through the press release, we were able to put activists on the ground in touch with Channel 4 to produce the below report.

BMHC Fundraising event

A group from the Syrian community of Manchester attended the fundraising event for the British Muslim Heritage Centre held at the centre's Marquee on Friday 6 May 2016.
The well attended event included presentations abut the BMHC and its contribution for the Muslim and non-Muslim communities.

International Alert: Building peace from the bottom up in Syria

We presented in International Alert's 'Building peace from the bottom up in Syria: Community-based peacebuilding from Aleppo to London' on Tuesday 3 May in London.

Our Refugee Support Coordinator participated in the panel and spoke about the experiences of Syrian refugees in the UK and what we are doing to help them integrate into British society.
