In light of recent findings of economic and military collaboration between Assad and Daesh (see here and here), we released a briefing on 9 May advising policy makers that 'Assad is not a trustworthy player in the fight against terrorism and that his role as an enabler and implicit supporter of the group must be addressed in order to make international efforts against the terrorist group more effective'. We furthermore stressed that 'the moderate Syrian opposition represents the only credible ground force that can effectively help in the international coalition’s fight against Daesh'.
