Dr Haytham Alhamwi, RR's Managing Director, gave a speech at Amnesty UK’s Human Rights Day event at Speaker's House in Parliament on 9 December 2015.
Dr Alhamwi talked about the work of Amnesty through his experience as a political prisoner in Syria and as a relative of many prisoners of conscience.
He talked also about the importance of human rights and the importance of Amnesty’s urgent actions to the individuals concerned, as well as in having an impact on their cases.
The house was packed and the event was chaired by Dominic Grieve MP. Among the other speakers were Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn and the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow.
