On Wednesday 28 November, Rethink Rebuild Society hosted a screening of the Oscar-nominated Canadian movie: Monsieur Lazhar.
The film tells the story of an Algerian immigrant who is hired by a Montréal school to replace a popular teacher who committed suicide in her classroom. While helping his students deal with their grief, Monsieur Lazhar’s own recent loss of his wife and children is revealed.
The film was followed by a discussion of the film and the ideas it presented. The audience talked about their interpretations of the issues presented in the film such as: integration, bereavement and child protection.
