Dr. Rik Huizinga presented his research on the homemaking experiences of young Syrian male refugees in the Netherlands, exploring how migration impacts their sense of masculinity and belonging.
On Friday, 31 May 2024, the Social Activities Committee at Rethink Rebuild Society (the Syrian Community Centre of Manchester) organised a delightful picnic at Cringle Park in Levenshulme for women and children.
On Saturday, 25 May, we hosted a roundtable discussion on Migration, Criminality, and Criminalisation, featuring perspectives from the UK, Morocco, and France. The discussion centred on the repression of individuals and organisations supporting migrants and refugees amidst challenging environments.
On Friday 24 May 2024, we hosted a focus group for Manchester's Arab community as part of “Our Manchester Strategy 2025 – 2035.” This was vital to ensure their voices are heard in city planning. Despite their growing numbers, the Arab community remains underrepresented. The insights gathered will shape Manchester's future.
On Tuesday 30 April 2024 we attended a conference organised by Migrant Help in Birmingham. It was a day packed with learning and collaboration, thanks to their generous funding. Highlights included sessions on community engagement, resilience building, and practical workshops on homelessness, employability, and safeguarding.
On Saturday 27 April 2024, our centre had the pleasure of hosting a screening of "Freedom to Run," accompanied by a thought-provoking Q&A session with the filmmakers. This captivating film chronicles the journeys of two distinct groups of runners: one hailing from Right to Movement in Palestine, and the other from Scotland.

With nearly 1000 attendees, the turnout surpassed our expectations, making the atmosphere truly electric! From slides to bouncy castles, face painting to delicious Syrian food, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
We had the pleasure of speaking to master’s students at the University of Manchester taking the module on migration and development. The aim was to introduce them to organisations aiding migrants and explore two questions: 1. How can organisations support migrants? 2. Where does 'development' occur?
On Friday 29 March, we came together at the Eastern Pearl Banqueting Hall in Manchester for our yearly fundraising iftar. This special evening was all about supporting Iqraa School in north Syria, where hundreds of children rely on essential education and care.
