The US has been busy with its election business...and still it passed the Caesar Civilian Protection Act this week through the House of Representatives? WHAT IS THE UK'S EXCUSE as Aleppo is being pulverised to the ground?!
RR attended a conference on 18 November 2016 which sought to raise awareness regarding the rise of the far right in Britain under the title "Tackling the menace of the far right".
The conference took place at the British Muslim Heritage Centre and was hosted by CSF in collaboration with other organisations including RR.
We spoke with BBC Radio Kent on 18 November to discuss the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement scheme through which Syrian refugees are being resettled to the UK.
It has been one year since the first Syrian refugees were resettled to the UK under the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement scheme. We spoke to BBC Radio Manchester on 17 November in light of recent findings that Greater Manchester has not taken in any Syrian refugees through the scheme.
We welcome the approval of the Caesar Civilian Protection Act by the US House of Representatives on 15 November which, if passed through the Senate and signed into law by the President, will introduce additional sanctions against the Assad regime and its backers (potentially Russia).
We visited a Year 8 classroom at the All Hallows Catholic College on 14 November to deliver a presentation on Syria and the refugee crisis. The students were extremely interested to hear about what was happening in Syria and were full of questions on why our Government has not been doing more to help the situation.
We were invited to give a presentation on Syria at a charity dinner for the Malaysian Society at Manchester University on 5 November. We provided an overview of the situation in Syria both before and after the conflict and stressed the need for civilian protection.
In a press release on 4 November, we highlighted the grave situation for Aleppo as the world is preoccupied with the US elections. Residents of the besieged Aleppo had the following message dropped on them from Assad/Russian warplanes this week:
We attended a 'Listening Session with Syria Refugees' with Mike Kane MP. We organised a team of 10-15 people to meet with Mr. Kane, who is expecting up to fifty Syrian families to be resettled to his constituency.
Following an attack on school children in Idlib on 26 October, we issued a statement to condemn this barbaric attack, but also to express our outrage over the honouring of Assad's envoy to the UN Bashar Jaafari by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. We highlighted that these double standards cause Syrians to be critical and distrustful of the UN.
