Rethink Rebuild Society in accordance with a group of Syrian organisations operating in the UK sent a letter to the Foreign and Home Office, asking them to trigger a special and exceptional mechanism to issue a visa for Syrian families directly affected by the earthquake in Syria and Turkey and those who have first-degree relatives in Britain, in addition to asking them to
The Syrian community and various organisations have inaugurated 'Syria House' in Trafalgar Square as a tribute to the earthquake victims. This new temporary community space will be open to the public for three days, commencing on Tuesday, 14th February, from 5 pm to 8 pm.
On Sunday 12 February 2023, we hosted an awareness session on hate crime in our center. The session was presented by our very own Dr Hammood Obaid and was given in Arabic. Dr Obaid stressed the importance of recognising and reporting hate crime. After the session, the floor was open for Q&A and the attendees added their input on their experiences.
On Wednesday 01 February 2023, we hosted a very informative seminar on the state of the British economy and the causes that led to the cost of living crisis. A depressing reality that's worth learning more about.
A big take home message also about strengthening communities building links and coming together.
On Friday 27 January we hosted a community dinner at our centre. It was a good opportunity to sit down and share delicious food with local people in Greater Manchester.
On Sat 14 January we had the pleasure of hosting the half day course: Mental Health First Aid delivered by Maqsood Ahmad OBE. The session was attended by approximately 25 participants, who had the chance to exchange ideas with each other and learn about this vital and timely topic. The participants received certificates for attending the session.
On Friday 23 December and Saturday 24 December, we hosted 2 social gatherings for Syrians at our centre. It was an opportunity to socialise with Syrian families during the holiday period. More than two hundred people attended including their children. Delicious Syrian desserts, snacks, tea and coffee were provided .
On Wednesday 21 December, we hosted the the amazing film screening of Peace by Chocolate. It was a tribute to Hatem Ali who sadly left us in December 2020. The screening was followed by a discussion with the film director, Jonathan Keijser
On Sunday 18 Dec 2022, we invited our community members to watch the World Cup Final at our centre. The World Cup is very popular amongst our community members, and we wanted to make sure that our community is able to enjoy the most important games with their fellow Syrians at our warm centre. The final between France and Argentina was thrilling.
