In furtherance of its charitable objectives, RR strives to raise awareness on issues related to refugees and immigrants within the British landscape through work on policy and media. Because of our daily work with Syrian refugees, we serve as a critical source of information on the Syrian conflict for journalists and through our professional relationships with these journalists we work on the framework by which refugee crises, particularly in Syria, are discussed. RR also organises seminars and hosts academic conferences that draw in leading academics and community organisers for discussion and insight on often overlooked aspects of the Syrian conflict and other conflicts in the region.

BBC Radio 5 Live Interview on UK Parliamentary Debate on Syria

In an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live on 12 October, we stressed our disappointed with UK foreign policy on Syria, particularly Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson's call for people to protest outside the Russian embassy without taking any additional steps as a nation to protect civilians in Syria.

ACTION ALERT! Contact BBC and Ask Why They Didn't Report Russia's Veto on Syria

ACTION ALERT

Yesterday Russia vetoed its fifth draft Security Council Resolution on Syria, further paralysing international action. Even China did not cast a veto this time.

While this is breaking news especially in light of what is happening in Aleppo, our dear BBC has not even seen fit to report on this issue.

Journeys Festival Conversation Corner

As part of the Journeys Festival, we facilitated the 'Conversation Corner' event on 08 October. Through this event we led a discussion with John Tomlinson and Emily Ntshangase-Wood from the play production 'Tanja'. This play is about a woman who is detained in Yarl's Wood detention centre and describes the situation of asylum seekers who are detained indefinitely.

Advising MEP Afzal Khan on Syria

In preparation for EU Parliament's debate on Syria, Rethink Rebuild Society sent some talking points to MEP Afzal Khan, some of which he incorporated into his speech in EU Parliament on 5 October. Afzal called directly for the establishment of a no-fly zone and for sanctions against Russia and Iran.
