Advocacy

In furtherance of its charitable objectives, RR strives to raise awareness on issues related to refugees and immigrants within the British landscape through work on policy and media. Because of our daily work with Syrian refugees, we serve as a critical source of information on the Syrian conflict for journalists and through our professional relationships with these journalists we work on the framework by which refugee crises, particularly in Syria, are discussed. RR also organises seminars and hosts academic conferences that draw in leading academics and community organisers for discussion and insight on often overlooked aspects of the Syrian conflict and other conflicts in the region.

Rethink Rebuild Society Gets Mentioned in a Parliamentary Debate

Rethink Rebuild Society's work was acknowledged during a parliamentary debate in Westminster on April 16th on the UK's recent military action in Syria. Alison McGovern MP quoted RR's lamenting of the absence of a UK strategy on ending the Syrian conflict, and proposed a framework of how that strategy should look like.

Interview with BBC Radio Kent on the UK's Military Action in Syria

Our Research & Policy Coordinator Bilal Shami gave an interview on BBC Radio Kent discussing the UK's military response to the chemical attack in Douma on April 7th, and the need to stop all kinds of atrocities by the Syrian regime - not just chemical weapons - in order to stop the conflict, facilitate a political process, and bring justice to the victims of this war.

Talk at 'Plight of Women Prisoners' Event for International Women's Day

Our Research & Policy Coordinator delivered a presentation on 14 April on Syrian women in Assad regime prisons as part of an event for International Women’s Day titled ‘Plight of Women Prisoners’. This event discussed the situation of women prisoners in Pakistan (Dr Aafia Siddiqui), Syria, Palestine, Kashmir, and Iraq.

Joint Statement: UN Secretary General Should Activate an Independent Mechanism to Attribute Responsibility for Chemical Attacks in Syria

Rethink Rebuild Society joined several organisations in issuing a statement urging UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to step up in defense of civilians everywhere by activating an independent UN mechanism to attribute responsibility for chemical attacks in Syria, after the latest chemical attack on Douma on April 7th.
