We ran film and photography workshops as part of the Journeys Festival in the container at Manchester St Anne's square. The project was called Reconnect, and local Art professionals teamed up with refugee trainees to develop workshops for the benefit of others. The purpose of the workshops was to give refugees the opportunity to work with established arts professionals so they could learn from them and have an opportunity to progress in their respected field.
The workshops were very successful and we were overbooked! The feedback we received from everyone was excellent. We have some amazing photography and films that can be found on our facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/British-Syrian-Community-of-Manchester-10810012...
It was great to see how empowered our refugee trainers were after working with the established professionals, and the links they had made.
Thank you to the trainers: Freelance Producer Samina Ali , Film-maker and Photographer Matthew Norman, trainee Photographers Farah Alfarhan and Ghalb Qassab, and trainee Film Makers Mais Hboos Alkasmi and Jamal Hasan.
Also thank you to everyone who took part in making it happen, in particular a huge thank you to Awards for All who gave us the funding to make this project possible.
