
A group of women met in the office of Rethink Rebuild Society on Thursday 21 January to discuss community initiatives that they are interested in organising. The women agreed on a number of projects and assigned team leaders for each one. These projects include:
1. Database of Syrian families and what they require
2. UK Culture – introduction course to UK culture with tips on how to best understand and interact with your new community
3. Housing fund-to set up a fund for new Syrians to be able to pay the deposit for a place to stay in
4. Clothes and furniture UK: collecting donated items and donating them to families in need
5. Clothes and donations for Syria: collecting donated items for Hand-in-Hand charity, which takes the items to Syria
6. Fundraising: to apply for funding or to engage in fundraising to make these projects sustainable
7. English courses: to run English courses for refugees
8. Women and children: To see what kind of support is required for women and children and to plan such support initiatives (i.e. monthly women’s meetings)
9. Mentors: To pair one new refugee family with one established family in the UK
10. Liaise with outside community: to coordinate volunteers who approach us for help
11. 5 March International Women’s Day: to plan initiative for 2016 International Women’s Day
