Khaldoon Sinjab, quadriplegic Syrian refugee, has his life at risk every single day in Lebanon. As the British Syrian community and supporters, we are demanding our Government to include Khaldoon as one of the 20,000 Syrian refugees to be resettled to the UK. Dear MP ,
I am writing to you as your constituent in regards to a compelling humanitarian case of Mr. Khaldoon Sinjab, a Syrian refugee who is currently in Lebanon, registered with the UNHCR. Given the urgency of his situation, described below, I would like to request that you write to the Syrian Minister for Syrian Refugees – Sir Richard Harrington – to request that Khaldoon be included in the scheme for resettlement to the UK under the Vulnerable Persons Relocation Programme.
Khaldoon has a rare medical condition that puts his life at risk every day. He is quadriplegic and able to move only his tongue following an accident that he had at the age of 17 after which he suffered a severe spinal cord injury and diaphragm paralysis. As a result, he depends on an electrical ventilator to breath.
With electricity in Lebanon cut off for an average of twelve hours a day, Khaldoon’s life is at risk every single day. When the electricity goes out and the charge on his generators are depleted, his wife has to manually blow air through a tube to keep him alive. If his machines stop working for only a few minutes, Khaldoon is at risk of dying.
A short video about Khaldoon can be seen here which highlights his compelling humanitarian situation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkM3nVTkFnE&feature=youtu.be.
Khaldoon is eager to come to the UK given his competence in the English language and because he has family (cousins) here.
Khaldoon's resettlement to the UK has received widespread support, as you can see through the following Avaaz petition which has received over 37,000 signatories. https://secure.avaaz.org/en/petition/UKVI_Grant_Khaldoon_Sinjab_his_fami...
His case was also highlighted in the International Development Committee’s report on the Syrian refugee crisis: http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201516/cmselect/cmintdev/463/...
I would like to ask you, as your constituent, to write to Sir Richard Harrington and ask him to retrieve Khaldoon's case from the UNHCR and grant him asylum in the UK under the VPR scheme.
Yours faithfully,
