We met with Stockport Councillor Iain Roberts on 2 December and had a very productive discussion on Syria. We stressed to Councillor Roberts that the Syrian conflict, in its essence, is simple: it consists of a popular uprising against a brutal dictatorship. We emphasised that the Assad regime is the root cause of the conflict in Syria, and therefore we did not anticipate that any solution would work unless it addressed the regime's indiscriminate aerial attacks which are responsible for the vast majority of civilian deaths. Councillor Roberts wrote an article on our discussions following this meeting.
