Rethink Rebuild Society made a submission to Parliament's International Development Committee in response to its inquiry on the Syrian Refugee Crisis. We outlined that the only sustainable solution for the refugee crisis is civilian protection from the Assad regime's indiscriminate aerial bombardments. Additionally, we detailed some of the issues that Syrian refugees are facing both in the UK and abroad, namely:
1. UK should take in more refugees than its commitment to 20,000 over five years.
2. UK should should not confine its resettlement policy to Syrian refugees housed within UNHCR camps, as some of the most vulnerable are not settled within these camps (for example, Khaldoon Sinjab).
3. UK should provide more support to Syrian refugees to integrate within their local communities once resettled.
4. UK should provide increased support to Syrian organisations and should provide them a greater role in devising and executing UK policy regarding Syrian refugees.
