Commenting on the recent Russian airstrikes on Syria, Rethink Rebuild told BBC Radio 5 Live on 2 October that we strongly condemn Russian intervention and call for civilian protection, namely through a no-fly zone. We clarified that the neutralisation of Assad's capability to harm its civilians will not in turn lead to ISIS's expansion, given that Assad has not been militarily engaging the group but has rather been using it as a tool to weaken the moderate opposition. We further claimed that it is necessary to take action now before the situation gets even more difficult as Syrian civilians and moderate opposition groups become increasingly marginalised.
