The Book of Damascus: An Evening of Stories and Conversation

On Wednesday 22 July, we were delighted to host the launch of "The Book of Damascus", in partnership with Comma Press, bringing people together for an evening of literature, reflection and meaningful conversation.

The Book of Damascus is an anthology of ten stories set in the Syrian capital. Bringing together different voices and perspectives, the collection offers intimate glimpses into the experiences and ongoing struggles of Syrians; stories that capture realities that journalism alone cannot fully convey.

The evening featured readings from the anthology’s authors, followed by a discussion with writer Odai Al-Zoubi, one of the contributors to the collection. The conversation explored the stories, the experiences behind them, and the role of literature in giving space to voices and perspectives that are often overlooked. The evening concluded with a Q&A, giving the audience an opportunity to share their thoughts and questions with the speakers.

We would like to thank everyone who joined us for this special evening, and our partners at Comma Press for helping bring The Book of Damascus to a wider audience.

It was a powerful reminder of the ability of storytelling to build understanding, create connections and bring people together.
