Wed 13 Oct 2021, RR Board Member, Dr Mustafa Alachkar, facilitated a post-show discussion with writer and performer Avital Raz at HOME Manchester. My Jerusalem is a solo performance derived from a song. A politically charged tale of a drunken one night stand, infused with stories of growing up in 80s Israel. A nuanced exploration of the politics of division, from internal checkpoints and separation walls to gender norms.
The performance tries to answer the question: Can we surmount divisions imposed by occupation? Go beyond the blame game, really see each other’s vulnerable humanity?
My Jerusalem was created during Foot In The Door residency with Lancaster Arts and developed during 2019 as a WorksAhead commission with hÅb/Word of Warning/STUN + Contact and received mentoring from Peader Kirk and Arts Council funding.
