RR Meets with the UK's Foreign & Commonwealth Office

Rethink Rebuild Society met with representatives from the UK's Foreign & Commonwealth Office on August 8th to discuss recent developments in Syria. The discussion addressed the need for the UK to explore further avenues for pursuing accountability, the importance preserving the independent space created by civil society, and the inclusivity of the political process.

Moreover, RR pointed out the need to resist pressures of forced return, as exemplified by the propaganda campaign led by the Syrian regime and its allies over the alleged stability and suitable conditions for the return of refugees, so long as the conditions that led to Syrians' displacement remain. RR will be following up on a suggested event to shed light on the file of detainees and forcibly disappeared in Syria, particularly on the abuses committed against women in Syrian regime prisons, to policymakers in the UK.
