We attended an event titled 'UK Helps' on 17 March in the Z Arts Centre. This event brought representatives from DFID and the Foreign Office to talk about the UK's aid to Syria.
We attended the 'First UK-Russian Symposium on Jurisprudence and Sovereignty' on 17 March 2016 which was hosted by Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester. This event brought together academics from both the UK and Russia to discuss issues pertaining to sovereignty.
We delivered a talk to a Geography, Development and Inequality course (of 130 students) in Manchester University on 17 March. We talked about what life was like in Syria and how it is now for those who have made it to the UK as refugees. We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jennifer O’Brien for extending this invitation to us.
We attended a training course on managing volunteers organised by Greater Manchester Centre for Voluntary Organisation on 15 March. The training course went through the role of volunteer management and discussed some of the ways that organisations can motivate their volunteers.
Thank you to the Polish community for inviting us to their international women's day event on 13 March organised by the Open Culture Project, which we attended with the Jasmine of Peace Syria campaign run by Syrian women.
On Saturday 12th March we participated in London protest to mark the fifth anniversary of the Syrian revolution. We renewed our commitment to a free and democratic Assad-free Syria and called on world powers to fulfil their moral obligations to the Syrian people.
We spoke in one of the fringe meetings in the Lib-Dem York conference on 12 March 2016 on the subject of Syrian refugees. We talked about a number of misconceptions that are commonly held regarding Syrian refugees, for example why they come to the UK and how they integrate within the communities.
We met with Tim Farron MP during the Lib-Dems' York conference on 12 March. We first had a brief chat about the situation in Syria, and stressed the need to ensure that ceasefires and other international agreements are upheld by Russia and Assad.
We attended 'Raising Our Voices', an event celebrating women, on 12 March. There were lots of activities on the day including a woman's choir and a fashion show in which we contributed Syrian women's dress.
