On Sunday the 27th of May, we held a screening of the Oscar nominated film "Omar." It tells the story of a young Palestinian fighter who agrees to work as an informant after he's tricked into an admission of guilt by association in the wake of an Israeli soldier's killing.
The screening was followed by an interesting discussion on the topics of the film.
On Monday 14 May 2018, RR hosted Niamh Furey of RefuAid who talk about the help provided by her organisation to refugees and asylum seekers.
Ms Furey explained that RefuAid provided help in the form of grants for preparing and taking English language test (IELTS and CAE).
Rethink Rebuild Society, along with the Syrian Welsh Society, Peace and Justice for Syria, and Syria Solidarity UK issued a joint letter to Leeds City Museum and Merthyr Rising thanking them for cancelling bookings for pro-Assad propagandists at their venues.
On Tuesday the 10th of May, RR delivered an awareness seminar in St Helens on hate crime. The event was aimed at new Syrian refugee arrivals in St Helens and aimed to stress the importance of recognising and reporting hate crime. After the talk, the floor was open for Q&A and the attendees added their input on their experiences.
As part of both their ongoing series of Conflict Cafes and the IWM's Syria: The Conflict Explored, on Saturday the 5th of May the Imperial War Museum invited Syrians living in the UK to share their stories from Syria and from their journey to the UK.
Our Research & Policy Coordinator delivered a presentation on 4 May at a symposium on the ‘Law and Politics of the Syrian Conflict’ co-hosted by the Centre for Conflict, Rights and Justice (Nottingham Trent University) and Nottingham International Law and Security Centre (University of Nottingham).
On 29 April 2018, we hosted a screening of Syria: The Impossible Revolution (2017), which was followed by a Q&A session with film directors Ronan Tynan and Anne Daly.

The old Manchester-Liverpool tradition of rivalry in football has been faithfully followed by members of the Syrian community in both cities.
