On 4 April, RR met with the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police and head of ‘Prevent’ Programme, Sir Peter Fahy. RR raised issues regarding airport security checks and police visits to Syrian homes. Both parties expressed their wish to address concerns shared by the Syrian community.
Organized by RR, the talk was delivered by Mr. Nasir Hafezi on 29 March. The talk was followed by a discussion which proved to be very informative for everyone.
RR education team created a Facebook page to help Syrian students wishing to study abroad.
RR met with RAPAR (Refugee and Asylum Seeker Participatory Action Research) on 23 March and discussed issues pertaining to the Syrian community such as the bank account closure campaign and the best ways to deal with the police. RAPAR suggested organizing a know-your-rights workshop in the near future for the Syrian community by the Northern Police Monitoring Project
Charles Farr is the Director of the Office for Security and Counter Terrorism. RR was invited by the Muslim Council of Britain to the meeting to be held on 21 March. Peter Fahy, Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, attended the meeting on behalf of Mr. Farr who apologised due to commitments.
Around 2,000 people marched in London from Hyde Park Corner to Downing Street on Saturday 15 March to support the people of Syria, who entered the fourth year of a their revolution against Assad regime.
RR teamed up with Manchester University’s Syrian Society and participated in the food festival of Manchester University on 11/03/2014 and in the football tournament on 15/03/2014.
Rethink Rebuild Society, National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces (UK), Syrian Association of Yorkshire and Syrian Revolution Committee in Newcastle issued a statement regarding British citizens travelling to Syria to join the fighting on 12/03/2014.
RR met with Mr John Leech MP for Withington on 8 March. RR raised issues pertaining to the Syrian community especially bank account closures, airport security checks and the re-activation of a parliament petition to open humanitarian corridors in Syria.
RR and the Palestinian Forum in Britain organised a seminar about “The situation of the Palestinians in Syria during the Syrian revolution” by Mr. Tarek Hamoud on 21st February at the Precinct Centre.
