Refugees, the Lived Experience [Online Conversation]

In this series of 'down to earth' online conversations, researchers present findings from their research work and discuss the relevance of these findings to the life and wellbeing of refugees.

Syrian Experiences of ‘Making Home Away’
A conversation with Professor Vicki Squire
In English with Arabic translation

In this episode of the series, Professor Squire draws on a book chapter that she co-authored, that examines the narrative recollections of people on the move who have survived the Syrian war. The chapter draws on a series of in-depth interviews with Syrians who have been resettled in the UK and Canada.

Professor Squire will also reflect on how experiences of loss are exacerbated by state policies and social conditions, which create barriers and generate additional emotional and practical burden for displaced Syrians trying to create home ‘away’ from home.
