Manchester International Festival and Rethink Rebuild Society are delighted to invite the Syrian community in Manchester to join us in welcoming Little Amal and creating a handmade patchwork quilt for her.
Little Amal is a 3.5-metre puppet of a nine-year-old refugee girl, who is walking from the Syria-Turkey border, through 65 cities, towns and villages, all the way the UK. Her epic 8,000km across Europe will end in Manchester, the city which she will make her new home.
Working with artist Ibukun Baldwin, participants will take part in two creative workshops to design and create patches with messages of welcome. The patches will all be joined together to form a quilt that will be offered to Little Amal when she arrives to Greater Manchester.
No previous experience required. Travel expenses and refreshment will be provided.
