Silenced Voices

Stockport for Peace together with Stockport Amnesty International Group is hosting the "Silenced Voices" display organised by Rethink Rebuild Society, to give voice to the women there.
Syrian women from Manchester and Stockport have devised this to ensure that women’s stories are not overlooked, their poignancy is to be shared widely.

The exhibition will be held on Friday 16 th March from 10am to 7pm at Stockport Quaker Meeting House, Cooper St (corner of Higher Hillgate and Longshut Lane) SK1 3DW.
This will be followed at 7.30pm by a talk by a former detainee, then discussion about the situation and what can be done led by Rethink Rebuild who recently met with MPs to consider the detainees.

Multi media links enable women’s stories of their struggles to be heard. “This is a unique opportunity to gain insight into one of the most important international issues: the campaign for human rights, including a safe place to live, that affects us all” said Phoebe Spence, one of the organisers, “Over 65,000 Syrian civilians have been ‘forcibly disappeared’ since 2011. 1 How can we end this atrocity?”

Women are suffering in the Syrian regime’s prisons, detained for helping others and organising for a better future. Please visit the exhibition to know more about their stories.
